Kolmanskop was once a booming diamond-mining settlement in the early 1900s. After richer deposits were found elsewhere, the town was abandoned almost overnight. Today, sand dunes spill into houses, filling rooms chest-high. The contrast between colonial architecture and the wild desert creates a surreal atmosphere. It’s one of the most photographed abandoned towns in the world.
